With the current state of the world, homeowners across the nation and beyond are very concerned about their health, and for obvious reasons. While we, of course, cannot make any specific recommendations regarding our current health crisis, we urge you to monitor updates from the CDC and WHO. At Dayco Systems, we are doing the same to ensure the health and safety of our employees, customers, and community.

In addition to protecting your health, you deserve optimal comfort too. This is the time of year we recommend our customers schedule air conditioning maintenance to make sure this is the case. Maintenance is often seen as an optional service, but the truth is, your cooling system can’t perform at its best and be trusted to keep you cool and comfortable all season long without this service.

The Value of Maintenance

Maintenance, also referred to as a tune-up, is when our professionals come in and thoroughly clean the interior components of your cooling system (we also do this once a year for heating systems) to ensure that it is able to operate as efficiently as possible. Additionally, we thoroughly inspect the unit and check for any components that need adjustment or even replacement.

This service allows us to clean your system inside and out, contributing to its efficiency, performance, and longevity. We will also alert you to any repair needs that might be pending, so you can address them before they have a chance to turn into much larger emergencies.

“When Is the Best Time to Schedule Maintenance?”

This is a common question from homeowners. Generally speaking, we advise you to schedule an air conditioner tune-up right before you’ll need the system the most. This means early spring—right now—is the best time.

Of course, the time of year you have maintenance done is less important than how frequently you have it done. We recommend this time of the year because historically speaking, HVAC technicians are more readily available and less likely to be out on emergency service calls.

However, when it comes to frequency, we recommend having maintenance done once every year for your air conditioner. If you’re utilizing a heat pump, it means your AC also serves as a heater for about half the year—so this system needs maintenance every 6 months.

Improving Your Comfort and Safety

One of the most important reasons we recommend being consistent with maintenance is because it helps to improve your household comfort. Over the years, cooling systems perform less and less effectively and efficiently. Without maintenance, components succumb to natural wear and tear—just like the components of your vehicle would if you were to skip car maintenance.

AC maintenance also helps to keep you safe. Of course, air conditioners aren’t dangerous, but they do have components that can be harmful if you try to service or repair your air conditioner on your own. For example, refrigerant is the chemical that makes the cooling process possible, and if refrigerant leaks it has to be patched and refilled (recharged). This is something that only a licensed HVAC professional is authorized to work with, because of customer safety.
